Time Stands Still

SATB Choir | 3'30"

This arrangement of John Dowland’s Lute Song, Time Stands Still,  was commissioned by Matthew Brady, the director of the Frost Chorale at the University of Miami, as a response to Jennifer Lucy Cooke’s popular work, Time. Where Cooke’s piece considers time’s fleeting nature and never having enough of it, John Dowland’s perspective focuses on moments where time comes to a halt. In this setting, the soloist is accompanied by ostinati in the choir and percussion that provide their own kind of timely stasis.
