Don't Send the Rain
SATB Choir | 3'30"

Winner of the 2025 ACDA-PA Composer Competition
Don’t Send the Rain is written in response to an untitled poem by James Baldwin (“Lord, when you send the rain, think about it, please, a little?”). Baldwin’s pleaful text describes the narrator wishing for an end to hardships, begging for mercy and looking for hope. The responding text is from the perspective of a wiser figure; perhaps a future self, higher power, parent, or teacher speaking to those going through such hardships.
